Because of these features, Blackwater Ranch stands as a great recreational property that also includes some ranching opportunities. While taking pictures of the property, eight deer were seen browsing in the transitional area. Turkey tracks were observed near the ponds and a few trees were noticed that had mud smears indicative of wild hogs. Trail cameras will be placed on the property in July to document the quality of the whitetail bucks as their antlers regrow. With the ranch being only 3 miles from the South Canadian River, ducks and geese will likely visit the ranch ponds on occasion. The main improvements on the property are good fences capable of holding cattle plus electric and water utilities along the county road frontage. There is one tank battery located near the eastern edge of the property that services a couple of small oil wells on the property. Two nice sized ponds are also located on the ranch. The larger is 1.8 acres and the smaller is 1 acre in size. The name of the ranch comes from the leaf stained waters of the 1 acre lake. Surrounded by oak forest, the tannins in the oak leaves naturally add a dark tint to the water. This color of water is often highly productive, and this pond is certainly is.
